Association for Rural Culture and Education
The scope of the operations of the Association for Rural Culture and Education covers adult education and cultural activities all over Finland; there are offices in Helsinki, Oulu, Kaustinen and Joensuu.

The Association's educational operations are based on law, and it receives government subsidy. In addition, the operations are funded by membership fees as well as fund-raising, e.g. project funding. The main issues in training programs are citizen society skills and development of countryside.

The cultural department of the association organises art-related projects and productions.

  • The association has been surveying Finnish contemporary self-taught artists from year 1997. This type of art, known as ITE art, has been shown in exhibitions, publications, seminars and international projects in Finland and overseas, in collaboration with several museums.
  • The projects include art activities for people with learning disabilities, conferences on environmental aesthetics and publishing.
  • The variety of cultural activities cover producing different art exhibitions, writing competitionsand international conferences
  • International cooperation and networking are also an important part of the association's activities.

The association is the main owner of the publishing company Maahenki Ltd, publishing books on nature and arts.
