ActionSpace is a London-based arts organisation that supports artists with learning disabilities by providing access to professional studio facilitates, high quality art equipment and materials and mentoring support from a team of specialist artist facilitators.

We have three dedicated studios in North, South and East London, where we are currently working with approximately 45 artists on a regular weekly basis. Plans are in place to open a West London studio later in 2016, so that we will be accessible for artists with learning disabilities from across all of London.

We use our extensive network of contacts within the contemporary arts sector to create oppertunities for our artists to exhibit and sell their work and to develop partnership projects in order to support the development of professional practice. We advocate for artists with learning disabilities and work to raise their profile and develop the marked for their artwork.

Our status as a sector leader within the UK was recognised by Arts Council England in the 2015-18 National Portfolio Organisation (NPO) funding round, where we were one of only 68 organisations across all of England to be awarded a significant uplift in funding.

Our work with organisations such as the Royal Academy, the National Portrait Gallery, Camden Arts Centre, Outside In/Pallant House Gallery, the Museum of Everything, Shape Arts, Project Ability in Glasgow and MAD Musee in Belgium (amongst others) has begun to develop a place for artists with learning disabilities in the contemporary arts sector. We will continue to work with these organisations and develop links with others to share and develop the similar ethos and commitment of helping artists with learning diabilities break the glass ceiling they are, sadly, often constrained by.
